Our President

Guests and My Brothers in Alpha,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to our website.
The Brothers of this 248th House of Alpha are excited to have you here with us. We just recently co-hosted the 66th Western Region Convention with the Brothers from Alpha Xi at the University of Washington and Iota Mu Lambda of Tacoma,Washington.

“There goes a man of high impulse, of princely mien and grace. There goes a man of humble faith, a credit to his race.”
from There Goes An Alpha Man, by Bro. Peter Clarke

The Seattle metropolitan area is a picturesque community of around 3.5 million inhabitants, the 15th largest metropolitan area in the United States, the 8th largest port in the United States, and home of Super Bowl XLVIII Champions, the Seattle Seahawks. The legacy of our Brothers in this region is impressive, we boast leadership in every aspect of this community including the highest levels of civic, military, corporate, medical, and judicial arenas.
During the convention week we continued to build upon the work of previous conventions. The theme, “The Alpha Investment: Innovating for Greater Impact” best outlines the direction of Brothers in this region. We recommitted ourselves to the very principles on which this great Fraternity was founded. Our Regional Vice President designed a schedule that allowed us to conduct our business, to develop strategies to move our respective communities forward, and to renew our fraternal bonds.
Additionally during the convention we were proud to present our Public Awards and Recognition Program. The event was special in that each Honoree’s public service was consistent with the Convention theme. The Master of Ceremonies for the program was our Fraternal Brother, Hon. Bruce A. Harrell, Seattle City Councilmember, and the presentation of awards was by Bro. Dr. Charlie Walker, III.  To the delight of all in attendance, the Keynote Speaker, Mr. Muhammed Jagana, Class of 2014, Garfield High School, Seattle, WA, presented a stirring address titled, “As an African-American male, what does Innovating For Greater Impact In Society means to me." We enjoyed an audience of 250 from the greater Seattle community including special attendees: our 34th General President, Brother Mark S. Tillman, Western Region Vice President, Brother Russell E. Flye, and the Council of Presidents for the Seattle and Tacoma National Pan-Hellenic Councils.  The Honorees for the event were:
  • Bro. Rev. Dr. Samuel B. McKinney, Pastor Emeritus, Mt. Zion Baptist Church
  • Mr. Nathaniel (Nate) Miles, Vice President, Eli Lilly & Company
  • Bro. Alvin (Al) Nurse, Administrator (Retired), University Place School District
  • Ms. Keisha D. Scarlett, Administrator, Seattle School District
  • Dr. Shelia Edwards Lange, Vice President, Office of Minority Affairs, University of Washington
  • Bro. Dr. Elson S. Floyd, President, Washington State University
Again, welcome to our House, may you be ever vigilant and continue to "march onward and upward towards the light!"

Fraternally yours,

Robert E. Lee, III
